I'm thinking of buying a Precision M4600 with the multitouch screen, which I think has stylus input.

Does anyone know if the screen would flip round like a tablet so that you can write on it or indeed if it doesn't how on earth you're meant to write on it? (I'm planning to use OneNote a fair bit).

I've been looking at the Thinkpad X220 but I'd ideally prefer one machine with a bit more beef instead of having to buy two.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't, which is why I don't really understand the point of it. Writing or sketching (if it has enough levels of pressure sensitivity) would be awkward. Seems kind of gimmicky.

It doesn't flip. And if you get it on the 4600 you have to get their low rez display. Avoid it imo.

Seconded. The multitouch screen is 1366x768, and Dell's 15.6" 1366x768 screens are some of the worst. They're completely devoid of contrast. Plus, the 1366x768 resolution is rather low for a 15.6" screen and will result in a cramped workspace. You'll get the same amount of virtual "realestate" you'd get on the X220 but blown up to much larger proportions. Highly recommend not sinking $1200+ into a laptop with this kind of screen.

    General tips:
    - If you're getting the M4600 don't get the multitouch screen or the regular 1366x768 screen. Get the 1920x1080 screen or the 1920x1080 IPS screen.
    - If you're getting multitouch on a Precision, go for the M6600 with the multitouch 1920x1080 screen

Thanks for the info. This really does seem like a crazy option to go for; A touchscreen that can't be laid flat seems about as much sense to me as doing CAD on an iPad.
