So I have had this e4300, and actually like the size and weight. I even went as far as removing the dvd-player to shave off some weight.
I was shopping for a while but the problem is that laptop in the 12/13" screen range and with a weight under 3.5lbs have inaccessible prices for me.

Dell is the only that offers something in that price range with 3 years warranty even if you buy at the outlet, and we all know that.

So the inconvenience of portability seems like a contradiction but I always find myself frustrated with this 3-cell battery, it is awful even with some undervolting. Lenovo outlet looks good but it has a 1 year warranty. At this point I am quite desperate as I don't see any alternatives around 3lbs that have a good cpu and don't cost more than $500/600.

I am always finding myself in need for a plug and I am on the go a lot.
Another option is that I get a 23/24" LCD at home and get a powerful 10/11" laptop.
I am almost thinking of getting a 10.1" tablet like the HP or Samsung, but they have limited power and docking options.

Who else is in this situation? What do you suggest?

A friend of mine bought a new x220 for $700 recently... shop around; I'm pretty sure you could find a similar deal, especially if you aren't adamant on buying new.

    already thought about that.
    1. lenovo warranty is expensive.
    2. you cannot upgrade warranty from an outlet product.

x220 have been on the market for a few months, base base x220i starts at like 600 w/ coupons, add minimum 40 for the IPS screen and you got the best ultraportable w/IPS on the market that doesn't cost Sony Z series money.

You won't be able to find a laptop like the E4300 anymore, new 13" laptops are larger because they are 16:9, and for me, 12" is just too small.

If you need longer battery life, look into getting a 6-cell battery for the E4300. It sticks out the back of the laptop, which is actually a good thing (makes the laptop easier to hold and use one-handed). I have a couple brand new OEM 6-cell batteries, so if you're interested, I have a spare that I can sell (PM for more info).

Or you could look for an X300 or X301 if you got the cash. :p

yes I think realistically the only alternative is the x200s. With the x200 I will be gaining battery life but weight it is about the same and will have a slightly smaller screen.
The x220 weight it looks about the same as my e4300.
