    Hi everyone.

I got one Artic Cooling MX-4 to apply to my desktop and I was wondering what kind of thermal compound dell uses. Do you guys know?

I have the laptop for about 1 year and 5 months, so I'm thinking on cleaning inside and replacing the thermal compound to the MX-4, do you think that the MX-4 will get me better temperatures? Is there a video-tutorial showing the disassembling process?

I saw the guide on dell website, but do I really need to do everything there? They basically tells to disassembly the entire laptop in order to get to the heatsink.

    Here is: Documentation

    Thanks.

Most OEMs use cheapo bulk thermal paste.

A general cleaning and proper repasting will help CPU temperatures moreso than just the actual brand of thermal paste.

And about that guide? Do I really have to follow everything in there to remove the Heat Sink?

    Thanks.

Yes because most notebooks including the Inspiron line for a very long time (at least since Inspiron 1545 and Studio 1537) changed their design to where you have to flip over the motherboard to access the heatsink/fan.
