Hello everyone. I recently upgraded the processor in my Inspiron 1545 to an Intel T9400. I think that processor totally rocks and performs as well as I need for everything that I do.

My Latitude D630 is not so fortunate. I forgot what the processor was that it has, but it has a 2MB cache and a 2ghz clock speed. It does not perform as well as my Inspiron does. If I were to buy another T9400 (since I already know I like it) could I pop it in my D630? Or is it not compatible with it?

T9400 won't work in the D630. If you want something in the T9x00 series, you need the T9300 or T9500. T8100 and T8300 are viable options too if you don't want to pay so much.

Thanks. The T9300 appears to be an equivelant to the T9400 and it should work. Thanks!

What CPU is in the D630? Generally, CPU upgrades aren't worth the money unless you're going from a Core Duo to a Core 2 Duo, or from a really low clock speed Core 2 Duo to a much higher one.

I would recommend that you take a look at the 2.0GHz T7300 or 2.2GHz T7500 as well. The T8X00 series only has 3MB cache, whereas the T7X00 has 4MB.

It was more than worth it when I upgraded my Inspiron. It had around the same specs and when I upgraded the CPU, the difference was like night and day.

The D630 came with a T7250, which for me lags quite a bit. It's fine until I run a virtual machine. Once I load a VM, the laptop crawls. (It crawls even when I'm not running a VM but moreso when I am). I've tried several hard drives, operating systems, and it's overall unbearable.

The specs on the T9400 I put in my Inspiron are what I'm looking for because that one works great.

Hmm, the main problem with the T7250 is that it only has 2MB cache. If the cache really made that much of a difference, you'll want to consider a T7500 (4MB) or a T9300 (6MB).

The T9300 will be almost double the price of the T7500 though, which makes me wonder if the 4MB to 6MB of cache will make a difference, since this is not a small price difference.

I looked on ebay and the T9300 was only around $200, which is about what I paid for the T9400 on my Inspiron. Since I am probably going to buy an E6410 in June or July I was thinking about upgrading to hold myself over.

If you're going to be upgrading soon, it wouldn't make much sense to upgrade it then...might as well keep it with the T7250 and use it as a test PC or a spare.

Thanks. I'll probably leave it alone for now. I haven't decided but I'll probably sell it off or use it as a spare. I can't wait for my E6410. :)

You're welcome. I usually don't sell my systems because I spend a lot on them and selling is not cost-effective at all because I won't get anywhere near what I want. I've seen D630's go for $400 to $500, and for that price, I'd rather keep it as a test/spare.
