Does anyone know of any option to enable two-finger trackpad scrolling on the M4400's Alps trackpad under Windows 7?

I've seen the "2 finger" software hack for Synaptic trackpads, but that doesn't apparently work on these Alps trackpads.

The trackpad scrolling is the one thing about this machine that drives me crazy. The black trackpad against the black casing is very hard to see in low light, and I'm always finding myself cursoring down when I mean to be scrolling down. (I've made the scroll area as wide as allowed.)

    Thanks!

Or, is it possible to swap out this trackpad for a Synpatic one?

Unfortunately, I don't know any hacks to do 2 finger scrolling for Alps. The drivers really suck, and no one likes them. I really do wonder why Dell continues to use them.

I've actually tried buying an upper casing from a Vostro with a similarly sized Synaptics trackpad, but the connectors between the keyboard/trackpad/motherboard are different. It would require soldering skills and a reliable pinout diagram to even try to attempt a mod like that, and I frankly don't have either of those. Simply, it's difficult, if not impossible.

Hey, how do you widen the scrolling area?

Can someone suggest a good non-Dell version of a recent ALPS driver that works with the M4400? For a while I was using Toshiba's latest for the 102-series ALPS trackpads, but I cannot find it anymore. I believe it was dated 10/2009. However, sometimes the trackpad was unresponsive after resume from standby or from hibernate.

I liked that I was able to set separate speeds for the trackpad and external mice, and also disable the touchpad while typing. I can do neither of those with the most recent drivers for the M4400 from Dell's website. So annoying! I might have to figure out how to manually modify the settings in the registry. (the only additional feature the Dell drivers have is tap-to-click on the Pointing-Stick)

The alps touchpad and the drivers make it unusable for me. easily the worst touchpad i've used. You must use an external mouse, but kind of defeating the purpose of having a laptop on the go b/c it's one extra thing to carry. Unfortunately, the nub is also light years worse than the thinkpad's nub.
