I decided to buy a dell e6400. But in UAE, I am unable to find an only english keyboard. But the main issue is price.
I have 2 options. Buy from India or buy online. But I dont know about the pricing of laptops in India, from what I saw online the laptops there are more costlier. As for shopping online, I am confused as I was told the there is a long procedure for paying tax and i am not sure if my warranty will be valid in the uae.

My body here from UAE who purchased there laptop from online or uae can give me your insight??

    Thanks

    Hi qbektrix

I'm not familiar with Dell in the UAE, but I highly recommend phoning or emailing their sales team. They should be able to offer configurations not available online, especially for simple things like the keyboard. You might get a better price too :)

About 6 years ago I had a computer shipped to me from USA while I was in Dubai and the tax was collected from me by the courier company before they would hand over the package.

Your best solution may be to buy the E6400 locally and import a suitable keyboard (backlit version recommended).

Thanks John. Its nice to meet some one experienced.

Other than the keyboard language, when i compared the price that I was getting to what i saw online. I have a feeling that i am being ripped off.
My best offer is E6400 with en&ar keyboard, dos os, 2gb ram, 3 yrs warranty ( i am yet to confirm if its 8600 or 8700. I am also not sure if my keyboard is backlit) and its Dhs.4400.

Can you pls tell me from where you bought your laptop when you where in UAE? Which courier company? How much? How many days? How was the warranty? Any advice?

I want to compare to check if i can get better deal online.

    Thanks

I bought a Fujitsu computer from Portable One. I can't remember which courier they used.

Dhs4400 for an E6400 with 3 years warranty appears, to me, to be a reasonable price.

Please make sure if you do get a new keyboard that it is backlit! It honestly is one of the best things about my E6500 that I have. :)

I also think the LED backlight takes significantly less power on idle than the my Vostro 1320 with similar configuration with a CCFL. (I know they are different machines but they are similar specs with new installs of Windows 7 and the latest drivers) I know I am comparing apples to oranges but I get about 7mWh discharge on my E6500 vs 10mWh on the Vostro 1320.

The LED backlit display does use less power (I may have made some estimates in my E6400 review), but the only sure way to get one is to get the WXGA+ panel. While, I think, Dell has now changed the WXGA panel to LED backlighting, there's still a lot of machines with the CCFL backlit panel floating around. The LED backlighting should also be one less thing to go wrong - no inverter.
