    Hi guys,

I want to install "Dell System Software" on my Vostro 3550 running Windows 7 64bit. I've downloaded the software from here.

The setup seems to install fine, with no errors, and I get a message at the end of the setup that I need to reboot my machine in order to complete the install. However, after I've rebooted there is no "Dell System Software" folder or icons installed anywhere. There is however, some traces in the registry at "HKLM/Software/Dell/System Software/".

I've tried to Google the problem and it seems like this guy, Dell System Software Win7 64 german - The Dell TechCenter , is experiencing the same problem. Unfortunately he has not received a solution.

Do any of you know the solution to my problem? :)

There is typically no traces, folders, or icons after applying Dell System Software. So perhaps it is installed and you are done.

Hmmm, if that was the case, how can I run the software? The software is supposed to download and install the newest driver updates and hotfixes.

Traditionally, the Dell System Software is a one-off one-shot patch for your system and OS. Even includes MS hotfixes.

"The program automatically detects your computer and operating system and installs updates appropriate for your configuration."

But just once upon installation... not ongoing like Windows Update.

"Adds support for the Dell Manageable Update Package standard."

I don't know what this means. But I would not trust Dell to perform automatic driver updates like I trust Microsoft to perform automatic OS updates.

I think you're done. You've applied the Dell System Software. There may not have been any recent hotfixes if you are not re-installing the OS. Just "Adds support for the Dell Manageable Update Package standard."
