My Grandsons D410 has a curser problem. It is erratic and dissapears off screen . I replaced the keyboard and HDD out of another working D410 with the same specs. No change. If a mouse is plugged in and the keypad turned off the curser works just fine. It doesn't appear to be from heat because it starts happening immediately. No keypad adjustment helps. Any suggestions?

Do you have the latest drivers for the touchpad? You might have the delete the drivers for the touchpad and reinstall them. Also moving to the Latitude subforum.

Yes the driver is OK. I took a hard drive from an identical working D410 with complete OS and installed it . Same problem.

I can almost guarantee you it's Dell crappy trackpoint implementation that's failing. If you disconnect the keyboard and use an external, do you still have the same issue?

Thank you for the suggestion. I solved the problem by removing the keyboard ribbon and cautiously cleaning the contacts on the motherboard. After reading your suggestion that the track points were crappy I thought it might be because one or more contacts were bad. It worked.
