I'm apologizing in advance if I am missing something or didnt perform a good enough search. I am usually very good with finding information but I think I have second-guessed myself to death on this now!

I am upgrading my t5670 in my vostro 1510. it has the GM965 chipset and I am talking to an ebay seller right now about buying a T9300 SLAZB chip. Now I have looked and found that it is "FCBGA6" vs. a "socket P" and this concerns me...will this 479 socket chip work just fine in my laptop?

Is there a difference (positive/negative) if I choose this chip over say, a SLAYY one?

    Thanks!

(been lurking for a year and finally needed some of that great advice you guys always give!)

I don't think you could use the BCA one (ball grid array)
find one with PGA (pin grid array) *it should be SLAYY or SLAQG

Thanks crayoneyes and Commander_wolf for your responses. Is there any difference BGA and the PGA besides the board being soldered? If I order the SLAZB processor, will I receive the chip with an adapter on it? And I can just drop it in and it will work fine?

I value your opinions, I'm just curious what these two distinctions are for and make sure I don't purchase myself an inferior chip.

Sorry if this questions is so newbish, but I've been out of the upgrade loop since the Dual Core series :\

There should be no difference between BGA and PGA save for the packaging. Nonetheless, SLAZB should be natively PGA, as noted on Intel's site. I doubt you will get a BGA chip with an extra PGA layer soldered to it.
