    Hi there

I recently got the Dell Vostro 3450 and the main attractions for me were the USB 3.0 and Bluetooth 3.0.

I got the WD My Passport Hard Drive which is USB 3.0 Compatible, I tried transferring big folders by using both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 (both ports). In USB 2.0 I was getting around 30 to 35 MB per second speed and the to my surprise that I was also getting the SAME SPEED from both USB 3.0 ports (same speed from computer to hard drive and hard drive to computer).

    Please note:

    1. Vostro 3450 got two blue color USB ports which are suppose to be USB 3.0
    2. My WD Passport is USB 3.0
    3. The cable that came with the hard drive is USB 3.0 compatible

The DELL SUPPORT CENTER Software is showing two USBs as USB 2.0 (High Speed USB 2.0 compliant) and one as USB 2.0 (Full speed USB 1.1 compliant).

What I understand then there isnt any USB 3.0 port in Dell Vostro 3450, please help me because I still have 2 or 3 days to return the laptop for full refund.

Also why the bluetooth 3.0 is working like crap.

Did you download the drivers from Dell's support site? Maybe they messed up your image from the factory.

I have downloaded the USB 3.0 drivers from the support site and still I am getting the same speed, its so damn irritating because USB 3.0 and Bluetooth 3.0 were the main reasons for getting this notebook.

Tomorrow I will talk with the tech guys on dell website and if nothing happened then the baby is going back for full refund.

Its my very first Dell but maybe its last.

Well likely something was defective, it happens. Also USB 3 won't really offer higher speeds for transferring lots of small files at once, only really large files.

I am sure something is missing or defective because I have ran numerous tests by transferring folders with 100s of files as we as few really big ZIP files (8 to 15GB) one at a time and always got the same speed of 20 to 40 MB per second which is a big time disappointment.

I so really want to keep this laptop but USB 3.0 is one of my main requirement, called the Dell and they told me that since its a business laptop so I got 30 days to return for full refund OR get another laptop from them.

I think Dell people are good so I would give them a chance though this USB 3.0 has to be fixed in next few days or else the baby is going back.

Ya sounds like a lemon product. Something like that I would not chance Dell trying to repair as it maybe a lemon. My E6410 had alot of minor issues, I sent it back for a refund.

Ya Dell Business is always a pleasure to work with. You can "return" the laptop and immediately order another one, though that will result in you losing a laptop for a couple days. Defective products happen, buying Lenovo or HP will make you any less or more vulnerable.

hey i dont know if this thread is close but i bought a dell vostro 3450 in 08/2011, my usb 3.0 is a renessas eletronics usb 3.0 host/hub. I was having serious problems with it since it simply turn off when I was using my mouse or a flashdrive etc. What I did was downloading the last driver update directly from intel website cause dells driver just suck!

if u have the same usb 3.0 controller it should do the trick for you too:

    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...g=eng&wapkw=(USB3_allOS_2.1.19.0_PV.exe)#help

good luck and let me know if it helps :)

Err, actually, Renesas and NEC merged. The USB 3.0 is really a NEC thing, not an Intel thing. I would recommend checking on the Dell site to see if there are any newer drivers since they're supposed to be tested compatible. What might be happening in your case is the power saving mode turning it off for some reason.

There was someone in one of the Precision threads having problems with built-in USB 3.0 when attached to the laptop unit directly, but no problems when using a USB 3.0 hub. Could be the same problem.
