Can anybody tell me the max supported resolution of the V131 HDMI port? I'm looking at a 1440p monitor with a HDMI to DVI-D convertor (HDMI input on the monitor only supports 1080p) and just want confirm there will be no issues.

    Thanks.

I spent some time researching this today. Dell's official answer 1080p maximum over HDMI. I don't know why this limitation exists as HD3000 seems to support 1600p over HDMI with a high speed cable. The problem might have been solved by a true HDMI -> Dual link DVI adapter, but apparently such a thing doesn't exist as it needs to be an active device :(

People have reported some success (e.g. 1440p at 40hz) with other laptops by entering custom resolutions into windows. This is a gamble of course, but it might be worth it to try.

USB -> Display link adapters will work but they are quite expensive ($100+) if you want one that supports higher than 1080p.

Hard to believe Dell sells laptops and monitors that will not work easily with each other.

Max res depends on what is attached to the other end

    HDMI 1.0 supports a max of 1920* 1200 and 1.4 supports 4096*2160 at 24bit color 24fps. At 48 bit/pixel it drops to 1920*1200/60fps
