I can get the V13 for about $400. The V131 would be about $600. Is it worth it to spend another $200 for surfing the web, email and burning some media with my external DVD burner?

Not really, depends on the spec V13 and V131 you are getting. I think V131 Sandy Bridge versions they increased the battery capacity to like 56 WHr but the standard voltage CPU's basically eat away any major gain in battery life..

I would get the V131. The V13 has Core 2 class ULV CPUs running around 1.3GHz. Both slow AND terrible battery life (2.5-3 hours). Heck, the base $500 Celeron V131 would be much better.

EDIT: Today only for Cyber Monday Dell has the top end model Vostro V131 for $650 shipped plus tax. It has the Core i5, 500GB HDD, 4GB RAM, backlit keyboard, fingerprint reader, comes with carrying case and wireless mouse.

I got a brand new fully spec'd V13 for $375 plus free shipping when Dell messed up the pricing on their website. Oh their loss :D

Is it worth it, NO. These are not gaming machines. I'd rather take the $600 and buy a ThinkPad with that money. But I do love both of my V13's nice machines for the money.
