I had a similar ground loop issue with the E6400 and a guitar tube amp resulting in audio buzz. The E6400 was connected by USB to a Line6 PODX3 'modeling' pedal board unit, which output to the amp. The E6400 power supply ground and the amp ground were looping noise on the USB DC(-) shield. I talked this over with Dell support and we concluded that the grounding prong on the E6400 power supply was extraneous/not required (notice that the smaller travel power supply AC cord has only 2 conductors and no ground prong). So, I cut the ground prong off of a grounding plug adapter and use that on the E6400 supply to break the loop and stop the noise. Of course, the E6400 latency issue still screws up audio work.

I recommend leaving the ground prong on the power equipment like my amp and your monitor, since it is most likely serving as a safety chassis ground. Not so with the notebook power brick.

    Hi all,

I am using E6400 with Quadro NVS 160M graphic chipset and LCD Eizo S2233 connected via DisplayPort.

However, native resolution 1680x1050 ( 16:10 ) works only with VGA D-SUB cable.. when DisplayPort connection is utilized, WinXP and also Win7 will give me option with non-native smaller resolution only to set.

Firstly I created custom resolution via control Panel with 1680x1050 @ 60Hz and even 20 more attempts with frequency and other fancy options changed. No luck.

What I have googled is , that it is possible that graphic chipset may not support even 1680x1050 on DisplayPort output (vga works), even if it is very common standard in these days.

I have updated Quadro NVS 160M and Windows 7 / WinXP drivers, also Eizo S2233 inf file is installed and detected correctly.

Please, can somebody confirm that E6400 with graphic chipset NVIDIA Quadro NVS 160M supports on DisplayPort external monitor resolution 1680x1050 ?

    Thanks in advance,

    Peter.

Good example , that companies have not exactly the same approach to DisplayPort (and also HDMI) implementation on HW and SW (drivers) level...
(and next version will be much more complicated for both based on wiki ...)

Actually, I have found on Nvidia/Dell support pages release notes for various versions of graphic driver with fixes like "Fix blank screen when external monitor connected via DisplayPort..." (see attachment).
Seems like they fix one bug and make another one or something similar...

So I will use VGA, I will not pay for DP->DVI cable just because somebody has failed to do his job properly.

    Peter.
