I read the big guide on the Vista clean install, but I have a couple more questions... I'm trying to put in a new hard drive to replace an older one in a Vostro 1500. The guide addresses the Vista installation and Media Direct. However, using partition software, I also see two additional partitions, the D:\ Recovery partition (which is 10gb) and another 86mb FAT16 partition (I believe this is the Dell Diagnostics partition).

Is there any reason to back up these two partitions so I can install them on the new drive, and if so, how would I go about doing gthat?

Do not worry about the Recovery and the FAT 16 partition, you don't really need these as I done the same and don't have them anymore, it won't affect you at all.
