I have a new Vostro 3700 with Windows 7. It has a fingerprint scanner but Biometric Devices is not an available option in my Control Panel. I thought biometric device use was built into Win 7? I have an XPS M1530 and didn't have to install any drivers for that laptop's fingerprint reader, just went into Biometric Devices and was able to register my fingerprints.

I can install Dell's "security by Wave systems" software and use that to register fingerprints but I'm having erratic behavior with it, sometimes a swipe will log me in, other times a swipe only brings up a login screen where I have to put in my password. I would like to just use Win 7's software like I do on the XPS.

Any idea why this Win 7 pc doesn't have Biometric Devices available?

    Thanks
