So I have a power problem with my 18 month old Dell Vostro 1310, I've tried numerous fixes but now i'm stumped so hoping someone on here can help.

The Problem: After plugging the AC adapter in the laptop will cut out approximately 5 seconds later. If I just plug the adapter in without turning on the laptop it doesnt charge at all.

    What I've done so far:
    - Tried a new battery, same problem (my battery/adapter work fine in friends identical machine)
    - Tried a different AC power adapter, same problem
    - Tried a new DC power socket, same problem

Any ideas? Or does it look like a more serious mobo issue?

    Thanks

    First thing I would try:

Remove battery and AC adapter and hold down power button for 30 seconds.

Test AC adapter with multimeter and make sure it is the correct voltage.

When you say cut out, do you mean shutdown or what?

Perhaps it's the connections where the battery is plugged in doesn't work? That would require a new motherboard or some serious soldering skills.
