    Hi

Currently have a Vostro 1500 with a WXGA matte Screen. Am looking to upgrade to a WSXGA+ or a WUXGA screen if possible. I know some screens come with an inverter but what about the LCD Flex cable and Systemboard.
The current LCD Flex and sytemboard in my machine is as follows

    0PM501 LCD Flex Cable
    0WY041 Systemboard

    I have the 8600GT 256 DDR2 card installed and a T9300 CPU

    Thanks

I think it should be able to accept WUXGA readily. I believe Commander Wolf tested a D830 WUXGA panel and it likely should work. The Vostro 1500 has a funky LVDS cable.

Yes, but it should also only have one type of LVDS cable (funky as it may be), such that you won't need to buy a new one to use WUXGA. Basically any CCFL WUXGA from any Dell made at around the same time should work... Inspiron 1520, XPS M1530, Vostro 1500, Latitude D820/D830, etc...

Cheers guys have a couple of hundred budget + resale of the old parts should be able to pimp it up nicely. More than happy with the CPU,graphics etc would just be nice for the HD stuff.

Just looking at a display on the bay now has come from a dell studio 1537. It is Samsung LTN154CT03 15.4 WUXGA. Specs say CCFL 30 pin so should be ok. Next question how easy is it to get a 8600M GT DDR3. Mine is the DDR2 does anyone have a part number for the DDR3 model or is it pot luck.

The Dell 8600M GT for the Vostro 1500 is only DDR2. It is a Dell proprietary module, which the GPU is soldered onto a Dell proprietary MXM circuit board that fits into Dell proprietary connector. Honestly it's a big step up from 8400M GS. It's a direct upgrade, no need to flash BIOS or anything. UW390 is the P/N you need.
