I've been a numpty of the highest order and tried removing some dried superglue from my 1500 casing, just below the keyboard (where the stickers usually are) using nail polish remover, which took off some of the finish - apparently a black magnesium coating I think.

Does anyone know any paint/touch up application I could purchase to touch up the area to try and restore it?

This isn't my laptop, but what the Vostro's finish usually looks like:

Would appreciate any handyman suggestions. Thanks.

I think it's probably way less trouble to just replaced the palmrest than to try to match the finish. You can find palmrests for like $20 - $25 shipped on eBay...

Thanks, that makes more sense, I've just seen this (from the UK)

Just hope it's not too tricky to change.

It's a little involved, but honestly not bad:

Amazing this is a little cheaper in UK than in US

Yeh was just looking at that right now, but I guess it'll be good to see how everything fits together.

This £10 one is B-grade ('Few slight scratches and looks like a very good clean used product'), the A-grade ones are £25 - not worth paying for my silly mistake. Hope it's decent.

    Thanks again!

I've replaced the palmrest on my 1500 and I found it fairly easy. :)

The palmrest isn't horrible, should only be like 5 minutes tops. Well maybe I've taken apart my Vostro 1500 too many times..
