I have a Vostro 1500 that is in excellent shape. It has a T7100 processor (Merom, 65nm, 2MB cache, 800FSB, 1.8ghz). Does anyone know how high I can go? I think Merom processors go all the way up to 2.6ghz on the 800 bus, and can have 4MB cache.

    Anyone know?

I'm doing lateral thinking here, but you may find that, unless you have applications that put a sustained heavy load on the CPU, an SSD would be a better investment for improving overall performance.

    3.9ghz T9500 overclock. That's how high.

without overclocking, T9500 stock is still the best. 6mb cache, 45nm tech.

I'd second that. Most day to day bottlenecks fare with the HDD these days.

Likewise, not every T9500 will OC stably to 3.9GHz, but it is indeed the fastest stock processor you can put in a Vostro 1500. On the flipside, there may be T9300s that have more OC headroom if you're into that kinda thing.

I third that thinking. A SSD is definitely in the plans. Overclocking is not though. Just dont have a real need for it.

I dont do a lot of gaming (read, nothing) anymore, so I figure I can probably just throw a few upgrades into this wonderful machine and get a couple more years out of it.
