I have a secondary laptop, my vostro 1500 and it is running pretty damn hot IMO.

With only the 1.6 and 8600m gt it is running at 60C core 1 70C core 2 and 40C GPU at idle.

I just cleaned out all dust and re-artic silvered it and there has been little change. Infact this is the second time, I thought I might have done something wrong the first time so I did it again and no improvement.

My gateway p7800fx runs at less than half of this Vostro....

There could be several reasons why you are seeing those temps. Many forget that with the summer months ambient temps go way up and with it the internal temps of your laptop. I live in Florida and during the Winter months my Vostro 1500 goes down to around 38C (CPU), 36C (GPU), 33C HDD. in the Summer I can't get anything lower than a 51C (GPU) and the CPU hovers in the low to upper 40's and that's just using the internet.

One thing you could try is I8KfanGUI. I use it to run the CPU/GPU fan in low speed at all times. It helps keep temps from getting out of hand during the summer months. :)

Thanks, I will have to throw I8k on there and see what happens, used to run it on my 9300.

However it is about 65 F in my house right now, ambient temps are not the problem, especially since I had this vostro for a year while living in Thailand and running it in 90-100+ degrees w/o temps like I am getting now.

What version of BIOS? I think in A05 they included some additional thermal controls. A06 is current BIOS and includes those thermal controls. Worth a shot.
