    Here's the scoop...

I have a Dell Vostro 1500 that I use for work, it's about 1.5 years old and the battery just died a week ago. The computer wouldn't recognize the battery, the battery had no charge, battery light flashing, etc... I thought this was weird, but whatever...

I got a new battery, and it seems to work fine, I can run with or without being plugged in, although about 90% of the time I am plugged. Here's the weird thing, no matter how long I leave the computer plugged in it always says chgarging on the little taskbar with 99% charged... I don't think this is normal? I wonder if this is why the last battery died so soon?

Any sugestions? I have the latest bios...

    Thanks!

Is your battery a dell replacement or an aftermarket replacement. I had a 1500 until a couple of months ago and replaced my battery at the 2 year mark with a Dell. Never had this problem though.

Yeah, if it's an aftermarket eBay thing, no surprise there, if it's a Dell one. Maybe get in contact with them.

uggh... yeah this new one is an aftermakret... thanks guys...

I thought maybe the issue with the Dell one dying so early, and now this one showing always charging no matter how long it's in there might be related...

You can find out the charge rate by using the battery info section of RMClock which will also tell you the Remaining Capacity, Fully Charged Capacity and Design Capacity. With my Dell battery the Remaining Capacity = Design Capacity when the battery is fully charged but the Fully Charged Capacity is the indicator of how much charge the battery holds.

I like the Battery Bar for that purpose. The free version is normally good enough: http://osirisdevelopment.com/BatteryBar/
