No, you're not!!! My GPU got fried yesterday. I've been aware of the 8400M issue for some time, but I was really hoping that, since it's not soldered to the motherboard in our case, I would never experience any problem. In fact, I never experienced ANY problem. Yesterday I was just working and, plop, screen was suddenly black.

I'm going to call a technician to get it checked, I need to make sure it was the GPU. In theory, we could get another (more precisely, the SAME model), main source being ebay... or directly through DELL, but they told me it would cost around 250 dollars... hmmm.

Just to let people know, I've been using like a desktop replacement. Basically, I use it for everything, from word processing to games like yours, Left4Dead, Team Fortress 2, and the rest games included in the orange box. I never tried to overclock the card or anything else, my use was pretty standard and I was always very careful about handling the laptop and keeping it clean an in solid flat surfaces with good ventilation. In fact, it almost looks like new, and I've owned it for 1.5 years.

If you know of other owners of vostro 1500 having the same issue, or about other forum posts anywhere else dealing with the same issue, please let me know!

If you can indeed confirm that the GPU module is faulty and you are out of warranty, the logical step would be to buy a new GPU module, either from Dell or on eBay.

My 8400M-based Quadro fried recently after 1,5 years of use (some light gaming), luckily I was still well in warranty.
