New laptop still under warranty. Originally had Windows Vista on it but was upgraded to Windows 7. Pretty sure issue started after that but not sure. The problem is all special character keys are not working; comma, period, plus minus, slashes etc. If I bring up on screen keyboard they work fine. Dell hardware support walked me through a few things including running a keyboard diagnostic tool to no avail. The diagnostic tool said the keys in question were responsive. The Dell tech then told me it must be a software issue and gave me a # for that support department but said that support is not covered in warranty it is fee based. Anyone else ran into this issue and found a fix??

Try booting like a Ubuntu live CD and seeing if the keys work there?

Actually for some unknown reason it was a program in startup that was causing the issue defmgr.exe which has something to do with a Microsoft Default Manager process for Windows Live. I disabled that and all is well
