    Hi guys

I've just reinstalled Windows 7 on my Vostro 1700, giving the 64 bit version a try this time.

I've installed most of the drivers, but there is still one showing in the Device Manager as not being installed, for 'base system device'. Does anyone know what this relates to and which drivers I need? I assume it's not the motherboard/chipset drivers as I used the Intel website to scan for the correct chipset drivers.

It's really annoying that Dell never released specific drivers for Windows 7 or even the 64 bit Vista for the 1700!

    Thanks.

Base system device is usually the card reader. I had trouble with my Vostro 1500 card reader. It's a Ricoh card reader, and Windows 7 should be able to surf the web and find the driver.

Aren't there any newer Dell systems with basically the same card reader/firewire controller, so you can use these drivers?
Perhaps those of the Latitude E6510 do work

Vista drivers will work that's what i'm using on both my 1500 and 1700. The one you'll need is Dell driver R141246

Rodknee, I've tried R141246 but when I try to run it is says

"you have to run the 64 bit version of DPInst.exe on this machine. Contact the vendor that provided you with this package".

Any ideas what to do now?
