I wouldnt imagine this by design .. I hope. But when the battery is out the a few extra "holes" become available where the battery latches into. Thats the only extra accidental air intake possibilities.

I suppose in thinking about it - does the battery itself heat up out of use? hence contributing to the overall heat of the unit.

I am generally using this unit as a desktop replacement unit so it is not moving around much. As it happens I have no problem with the battery out more than in ..

Anybody have more experience with the standard screen...its a fair old wack for the screen upgrade and wondering about quality of the standard vs the studio screens.

Very close to buying... P7570 2.26ghz 4gb DDR2 Ram Gforce 9600M GS for around £550.

    The other option is a studio 15...P7450 2.13ghz 4gb DDR2 Ram ATI Radeon 4570 for £530.

My main concern is the screen difference between the two, internally the vostro has more power for a slight price increase...but the studio comes with a nicer screen...or so im led to believe via "Dell chat"

Any help would be much appreciated! Offers change tonight for the vostro here in England...

The Vostro configuration page at Finland's Dell homepage doesn't include Windows 7 as an option. You think they'd be able to ship it with that included if inquired? Is the TrueLife 1920x200 screen a glossy one?

Also a tougher question: anyone have a clue if this machine has two HDD slots? And if you order with just one hard drive will the other slot still have the adapter and other stuff so I can instantly install an SSD in it? Because reportedly this isn't the case in the Studio 17 model as well as a lot of other notebooks.

I just ordered this laptop with that screen (still waiting), it is glossy. While an ssd will fit and work in it (i've got one) i found that in my previous laptop (dv9000) the intel southbridge was getting very hot. Could cause an issue if i have 2 HDDs in there since the southbridge has no heatsink or cooling of any kind. 2HDDs + Wifi + Sound might be too much for it.

I'm hoping something is wrong with it so i can return it, even if its something like a wrongly advertised option (its from the outlet), i need hdmi, i want to have the option of digital video out even if i never use it. So if the smallest thing is wrong i'm returning it asap.

6 USB PORTS?!?! and no HDMI?!?!
seriously, what kind of business person buys this, you'd look `out of date` the second your ancient laptop couldn't connect to the projector

This may be a late reply, but how do you rate the quality of the VGA output? With all monitors, and at all resolutions, I have interference on the VGA output. This generally only occurs with (a pattern of) fine lines, but is very annoying. The problem can easily be reproduced by showing a hash or horizontal/vertical lines pattern with software like Dead Pixel Tester.
