1: Does anybody know if the keyboard is actually water resistant?

2: If I spill water on it and it breaks, is it my fault for spilling or dell's fault for failing to do what it advertised?

i once sold a shoe to someone who asked... "is it waterproof"

my reply was... yes, stay out of water, it's waterproof.

waterproofness and water repellant, water resistant are quite vague terms.

unlike watches, it does not state the standard or conditions to which it is water resistant...

perhaps you will get a better answer from dell's small business customer service rep.

Unfortunately, Dell's business line still doesn't have something similar to HP and Lenovo in terms of water dispersion.

Water resistant does not mean water proof. If you spill a few drops on it, nothing will get damaged. If you spill a cup of water ... not going to last.

Even if it is said to be "water proof" Dell is going to tell you to not spill water to cover their own ...

the dells have a sealed keyboard, which is not as effective as the thinkpad's sealed keyboard+ drainage holes.

so in essence, a light spill will be ok, heavy spill probably not as it dont have the drains the thinkpad does.

So if I spilt something, do I stand the laptop up like a tent or ...?

The last time I did that on a different laptop and stood it up, all the water went onto the motherboard and killed the laptop :(
