Vostro 3000 series - Enabling AHCI after Windows XP installation

Has anyone managed to find a way to enable AHCI support on a Vostro 3000 series notebook (HM57 chipset) with Windows XP already installed without slipstreaming, like the Lenovo example in this thread?

Tried two Intel Rapid Storage drivers, both manually or using an installer, to no avail...

 

This thread relates to the IRRT to AHCI swap on the E6400 running Vista (with updates for Windows 7). It may also work for XP and is worth studying.

Eventually, I accepted the inevitable, slipstreamed the Intel RST driver and reintsalled Windows XP.
