Ok. I’ve decided to Hold fire on my Dell XPS 16 purchase till all these talk about new graphics or even a redesign surfacing in the next coming month

SO Ive decided on a compromise till then to tie me over. Luckily it will be purchased as a company expense :)

So I have to make a decision between these two laptop today as sony offer on free blu-ray ends today

I am aware that getting parts to fix sony's are a lot more harder than dell. I am also aware that the lead time for delivery on sony sytems is also a lot longer

So Here are the specs. The Vaio has options for downgrades that could bring the price down even further

    Sony Vaio VPCEA1X5E
    windows 7Home
    Intel i5 430M(2.26GHz) (subtract £50 if going with Intel i3 330M(2.13GHz))
    14"
    320Gb HDD
    4GB 1066 RAM
Blu-ray drive (read Blu-ray, write DVD)
    BlueTooth + Wireless
    ATI 4570 (512MB) card
    hdmi port
16900x900 0.3mp Webcam LED display (subtract £20 if going with 1366x768)
    £659

    Dell Vostro 3300
windows 7Pro (subtract £35 to downgrade to win 7 Home)
    Intel i5 430M(2.26GHz)
    13.3"
    320Gb HDD
    4GB 1066 RAM
    8X DVD RW
    BlueTooth + Wireless
    Integrated graphics
    hdmi port
    1366x786 2mp Webcam LED display
    £674

on the vaio, downgrading cpu to i3 and the display resolution to 1366 will lower the cost further to about £590

So which will be the better option ?

    cheers

I would go with the Dell, Sony is usually good quality, but I've never found their computers to live up to their other electronics' reputation.

Another key difference here is that the Sony is 14" and the Dell is 13". 13" would be excellent for portability, but 14" would be a litle better for everyday use. I would definately recommend taking a look at the Latitudes, including those from the Dell Outlet as well. The Latitude would be a step up from the Vostro.
