    Hello everyone.

    I'm considering purchasing a Vostro 3300 laptop.
While the computer in general answers my needs, the weak default 4-cell battery seems like an annoyance, and the alternative 8-cell battery might not be a better option since it protrudes out of the bottom.

I've stumbled upon the product page of the Vostro 6-cell battery on Dell's website, which states that the battery is compatible with Vostro 3300. See here: DELL 56 WHr 6-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery for Dell Vostro 3300/ 3400/ 3500/ 3700 Laptops : Laptop Accessories: Webcams, Keyboards, Mouse & More | Dell

However, the compatibility list doesn't seem overly reliable, since I found no other reference of such compability on the web (Dell UK's product page of the same battery doesn't list the Vostro 3300 as compatible).

I contacted Dell's support via chat, which, upon looking into the matter, claimed without a doubt that the battery is compatible with Vostro 3300.
However, since I had to struggle a bit with support in order to get a clear answer (the support is obviously outsourced), I'm not sure the support is highly credible either.

If anyone is able to assist me in the matter, perhaps by trying to connect a 6-cell Vostro 3000 battery (perhaps from Vostro 3500) to Vostro 3300, and verify whether the battery is compatible with the laptop, I'd highly appreciate it.

Also, just to clarify - although the Vostro 3400 comes with a 6-cell battery, it's unfortunately not available in my country, and therefore it is not an option.

    Thank you.

Considering that it uses 14.8V battery (8-cell is essentially two 4-cells in parallel), I doubt the 6-cell actually exists. Even if it did, it would stick out the bottom like the 8-cell, so there's really no point to it...

If the 4-cell doesn't last long enough, I would just go with the 8-cell. Personally, I have both a 6-cell and a 9-cell for my E6400. Normally I use the 6-cell, but if I know I will need longer battery life, I swap it out for the 9-cell.

I also doubt its existence, but Dell's comments have thrown me to confusion. The support agent also said that the 6-cell battery doesn't stick out of the bottom like the 8-cell.

Based on the shape of the 4-cell and 8-cell, I'm fairly convinced a 6-cell isn't possible. Is the connector recessed in the middle of the empty region on the right side?

If there were 6 cells (you can see from the 4-cell's shape that it's three on top and one on bottom) in that battery, it would be completely rectangular, leaving no space for the connector.

The Vostro 3400's 6-cell is rectangular, with the connector on the edge of the battery. It's a different design, so the 6-cell on Dell's site that is listed as compatible with the 3300 is definately incorrect. Hope this helps!

Alrighty, I guess the information on Dell's website is incorrect there.
Of course there's a chance that the battery image is simply incorrect, but I do doubt that any 6-cell battery is compatible with the 3300. That is unless someone could prove otherwise.

It's a shame, but I guess I'll just get an extra 8-cell battery.
