Is there a general consensus on which is better? Just what are the differences?

Notebookcheck has good reviews on both

I would say it's basically a question of if you need a optical drive and will accept a bit of extra weight due to this.

The V3350 has a slightly better screen and the option of a discrete GPU. However, the GPU is entry level and not much better than the iGPU graphics. The ATI drivers might be better and that will be useful for professional graphics applications and gaming. I have read the graphics switching implementation is quite bad on the Vostros so that may be an issue.

IMO if you really need expandability and a halfway decent GPU you should go for the bigger and heavier V3450. Keep in mind you will give up quite a bit of battery life.

It's very hard to replace / upgrade HDD, SSD and RAM in the 3450 (I think it will broke the warranty).

I have a 3350, and I love it pretty much. The 3350 has better cooling system, thus recommended more for intensive usage.

If you want to move with your notebook a lot, V131 might be a better choice.

I don't think warranty will be voided, unless you break the notebook during the upgrade. Dell even provides instructions on how to take apart their notebooks.
