I am considering buying a Vostro 3400 with the following config:

    4.56lbs; 14.0" 1366x768 LED; Intel Core i3-370M Dual-Core @ 2.4GHz; 2GB; 250GB; DVD burner; 802.11n + bluetooth; Windows 7 Home Premium; webcam; 6-cell battery; 1yr warranty

I will be using it mainly for school work (MS Office, Firefox ) and maybe a movie once in a while.

Could someone tell me if a Vostro 3400 running Win7 with 2GB RAM will be sufficient for my kind of usage or do I need to upgrade to 3/4GB?

    Thanks!

You could always upgrade later if you feel the need.

2GB should be enough for running the applications you list. Looking in my Task Manager reveals that Firefox (with more than 20 tabs open) has used a maximum of 436MB of RAM and Word has used a maximum of 227MB during the past 35 hours since I last rebooted the computer. That leaves over 1GB for Windows, which is plenty. On my computer the biggest RAM users are GIS software, graphics programs and Acrobat professional.
