Its a base install with what comes with the computer only adding office 2007.

After using one of the laptops for a few days I began to notice memory not being flushed it seemed. I would use a browser or two with eclipse running memory about at 2.3 gigs out of 4 and after a while windows would scream with a low memory. Odd so restarted and back to normal. This continued through out the week and frustration began to grow. Thinking it was just my laptop I did a clean install of windows 7 not from dell but from microsoft itself. Every is running as normal now. The rest of the laptops when we tested them ran into the same issue i had. Running out of memory for no reason at all.

We did a test fresh booted 3 units launched firefox on one, IE on another and powerpoint on the last one and just left them there over night. Next morning all 3 had low memory windows errors.

Has anyone else experience this with the vostro 3500's? or any dell laptops purchased? It would have to be some sort of dell software and windows prepacked issue no?

    Thanks Doug.

    Hi,

were you able to find out, what application is to blame for the high memory consumption?

I don't have a Vostro 3500 myself, but it is not impossible that there is some buggy software (or driver) preinstalled which has been wiped with your fresh install.

The Dell factory installation may not have all the latest driver versions installed. Did anyone check for newer drivers?

Had the exact issue - low virtual memory computer lock up after computer was on for about 6 hours - with two Vostro 3500 laptops. Problem was related to Dell Wireless utility (bcmwltry.exe). Uninstalled and reinstalled. Problem was resolved.
