I just ordered a 3550 for my grandma. She does web-based email, facebook, solitaire, Skype, and stores/prints photos from the computer. I only ordered it with 2GB of PC3-10666 RAM and wish to add another 2GB for her as I can do it for WAY cheaper than Dell offered it for on their site. My question is this: with the limited use this computer gets, would it be a problem for me to just take a 2GB stick of PC3-8500 RAM from my ASUS and put it in her Dell? I understand it would cause the stick already in there to slow down, but this way I could buy myself a 4GB stick for my ASUS and not have the 2GB stick go to waste.

    Thoughts/opinions?

    Thanks!

That's sounds like a great plan! Since the 3550 will only be used for basic stuff, slower ram won't even be noticeable.

Shouldn't be a problem. More RAM > faster RAM
