Please excuse me if this has been debated before.
New Dell Vostro A860, I love it....BUT...after full charge, I only get 1 hr of battery life?
Is that normal? I've heard the battery time on these was good - but only active for 1 hr without a charge seems silly.
    Can you advise/help?

No, that's not normal! The A860 is available with a 4-cell and 6-cell battery, depending on configuration. But even the 4-cell should last for two hours! I'd contact Dell Tech Support and tell them to send a replacement battery.

Well, if you have a 4-Cell battery, a Celeron, and a CCFL display turned up all the way... I could see you eking out just an hour on battery power. It's definitely low, but without more detail, I don't think it necessarily implies a faulty battery.

    For example, a Toshiba Satellite L305-S5919 has a 2.16GHz Intel Celeron 585, 15.4" CCFL-backlit display and 6-cell battery. It manages 2:38 on MobileMark2007.

I just can't fathom any modern laptop only lasting one hour on a charge. Then again, a 4-cell isn't really adequate for a 15.6" notebook...

Thanks all......I've changed the Dell setting to be more frugal, even then the machine only estimates 1 hr 29 mins.....I just don't want to buy a 6 cell replacement if I can help it!

Install Notebook Hardware control for Dell laptops. Then see how many watts you are drawing while running on battery. That would give us a better idea as to how many watts you are drawing : battery power.

    What are your system specifications?

That will help to determine whats eating your power.
