I'm probably will be returning my M11xR2 because of the lack of gigabit ethernet. I'm wondering, how is the built quality of the Vostro, specifically 13inch(if all 13-15 have same built quality, please let me know). What I'm looking for is how solid does it feel, does the body feel solid, is the lid firm or hallow? And how is the keyboard? I have used Dell Studio 15, Alienware M11x, Fujitsu T4215 and Lenovo T60? If anyone have experience and can give a direct comparison to any of those would be great. As said, all I'm looking for in comparison is the the build quality.

    Thanks,

I don't have the answer to this, but WOW! The M11x doesn't have GigE?! Not that I'd need it much, but you'd think it would have it, it can't add more than a few bucks to the system.

I have purchased 4 Vostro's in the last 2 years and I would say they have a solid value. In my sig I own a Vostro 1500, 1700, 1520 and now a Vostro V13. The V13 is my favorite because it looks so cool but the 1500/1700 have a magnesium casing and the 1700 is just a beast.

    I wouldn't hesitate buying another Vostro, i'm a happy customer. :)

Here is the thing, before I ordered M11xR2 I looked at the online pdf manual and it does show gigabit ethernet (page 95). After I receive the unit, I then found out the hard way that it's not. Also, after doing more research on Vostro 3300, I found that Dell make a similar mistake on this as well. The websit will say that Vostro 3300 has 1920x1080 screen res. Well, checking w/ service manual & a few web review will say otherwise. Just 1366x768. So yea, more disappointing and it mean Vostro 3300 probably won't suit me better.

How about the Latitude E4300/E4310? 1920x1080 won't be available on a 13" system, common sense should've kicked in there. You may only find that resolution on a 15" or larger screen, but I will warn you that the text will be VERY small. I had a Precision M70, 15.4" 1920x1200...

15" isn't what I'm looking for. I under stand that at 1920x1080, the text is small. But I'm already used to both SXGA+ screen (1400x1050) on both my T4215 and T60 which are 12 and 14 inches. So, SXGA+ is the minimum I'm looking for and I'm sure the text is not too small for me.

I used 1400x1050 on my 14" D610 before, and it would be roughly 1280x800 on 13" or 1440x900 on 14" (and their comparable 16:9 resolutions).

I have a few vostros at my company, and overall they are not bad machines, 1310, 1320, 1220. To me though they do have a feeling of cheapness to them, they keyboards flex, the keys are not very smooth and the quality feels cheap.

As bad as this sounds it can be a good thing though, simpler machines usually last longer, and if something occurs parts are very cheap.

True, but 1400x1050 on my 12" T4215 isn't equivilent to 1440x900 on 13" Vostro. My eyes sight still good, I do not need lower res with bigger screen.

1400x1050 on 12" is crazy, I doubt there are any laptops that exist with such pixel density anymore.
