    Hi everybody,

    I recently bought a Vostro V13 (base model) with Celeron 743 + 2gb ram = Ubuntu 9.10.

I decided to switch to Windows 7 64bit. Everything runs fine, except for the touchpad. I doesn't have any multi touch capability what so ever.

    I tried a few things:
    Update driver automatically
    Update driver directly from Synaptics
    Install driver from Alps

Nothing worked. Now, I just realized that the Synaptics setting option doesn't even has the "virtual scrolling menu".

    Any ideas? Thanks!

    Hey -

Did the touch pad work in 32-bit?

Also, you might try the WIN 7 64 driver listed under LATITUDE 13 at the Dell support site. I think the V13 and Latitude 13 have basically the same hardware.

Just install the dell drivers, the 32bit install has the x64 drivers as well.

    @xeroxbol:

sorry for the offtopic post, and i know you've solved your issue too, but i just had a few quick questions

How is the v13 working out for you with windows 7 installed?
    how's the battery life?
and do you think you could post some actual pics of the notebook?

i'm looking into buying this but not sure if i should. right now im deciding between the v13, the lenovo x100e, and the msi x340.

Windows 7 is working without any problems....and is actually faster than I expected, specially considering that I bought the base system (Celeron 743 + 2gb ram)
Before buying this laptop I tried two other laptops, the Asus UL30-X5 and the HP
DM3....both Core Duo processor with 4gb ram. Let me tell you that the speed difference is not significant, at least not for what I use it.
I was absolutely disappointed with Asus quality...it looked like a cheap toy...the fit and finishing was certainly disappointing.and the plastic on the edges was sooo cheap. The DM3 was much nicer....but the AMD processor made it so hot you couldn't put it on you lap...besides the fan was just too noisy.
Battery life is between 3-4 hours.....probably closer to 3 than 4.
The finishing is awesome...considering what you will be paying....the computer is almost dead silent most of the time and doesn't heat up at all.
I highly recommend it. Way much better any netbook I saw in the markt (performance, quality, etc)

thanks for the info. i've ruled out the msi, now im just stuck between the vostro v13 and the lenovo x100e. although the v13 does look better than the x100, the x100 has better graphics capability, and it does have the thinkpad features (build quality, spill resistant keyboard). im just not sure if i want to go with an amd processor.

Sure, lenovos seem to be good machines. I'm not expert (by far) but I did some research and apparently AMD processors will heat up much more, which most likely will impact your battery life....as I said the DM3 I tried with the AMD processor was so hot that you couldn't put it on your laps...and was even unconfortable for hands as well....

Try Scrybe. Just install them over the Dell drivers.
