Sorry to hijack this thread but these laptops seem much better than the SXPS1340. Other than better graphics on the 1340, why would one buy it over the Vostro? What is the advantage of the "consumer" line?

The 1340 is in the process of a complete redesign. It was the higher end of the Dell Lineup in 13" computers. It is allegedly being redesigned because it could not accomodate the Ix processors. The redesign was suppos to take 5 months. I think what we have seen is a part of a wave of redesign that will probably lead to the release of a new studio 13 xps. So the answer is that, no one should buy a 1340 over the new Vostro. The Vostro is flawed though and I would suggest waiting for the new XPS if possible. Otherwise, get an Acer 3820TG.

Why would you say the Vostro 3300 is flawed? In what regards?

    What about the V13?

I just tested my brand new one. Only lasted 1.5 hours! Bloody useless.
Charged it up fully overnight, used it this morning, copied some files for 15 mins and use Visual Studio.

Also, I find the front corners sharp where my wrists often go and there's a HUGE flaw in the design, when you open the lid, it blocks the rear exhaust air vent! Very stupid. The bottom of the screen gets very hot, almost too hot to touch, I can't understand the monkey who designed the laptop this way.

Gonna do another full charge and test the battery life once more just in case, otherwise I'm thinking of returning it.

On the plus side, it is fast and the keyboard is nice.

Haven't been around here for quite awhile. My initial concerns about the 3300 were its small battery, lack of peripheral ports, limited configuration options, and anemic GPU to name a few. When it was introduced, it was also expensive, considering what was being offered. Dell has moderated teh prices somewhat. I still think the 3400 is a better unit and a better deal.

I absolutely agree because they are radically different. I just bought a V13 with a ULV Celeron processor. Now even with a ULV Celeron the V13 is competent while not being considered a powerhouse. It handles Windows 7 surprisingly well even with 2GB of ram.

The screen is absolutely amazing. It has decent viewing angles but wow it's one of the brightest screens I have seen on a laptop and the color depth is good. Things pop out on the screen with very good contrast. I'm not sure if the V 3300 has an aluminum outer shell but it's a nice feature on the V13 even with the inner black plastic. The touchpad is a good size, very responsive and accurate even with the synaptics drivers.

Also the V13 is very thin and I don't have a V3300 to compare it too so I can't compare them. I guess for me and most post sales individuals is would you buy it again if you had to do it over? For me the V13 is an unequivocal YES !

The battery life for a battery this small is pretty good.

You are choosing between a light ultaportable and almost an desktop replacement device, if performance matters go for the 3300.

You can get the 3300 with i5. I'm wondering, though, whether it is a little underpowered? (The Macbook Air definitely seemed to be.)

Also, the specs on the 3300 with i5 have it at over 3lbs.
