Picked up a refurb on the outlet for cheap, like really cheap... Good old coupons. Either way, its just going to be my school machine, so I am not really interested with anything other than basic typing, etc...

The specs were on the bottom end, but I did Install an SSD and I had a question.

How do I get my onscreen notices back? Before, I would dim/lighten the screen and I got a little notice that popped up, now I don't. Same with disabling the trackpad and changing the volume. I was thinking this could be a bios thing so I flashed to A6 and still nothing. Any hints?

Also, with my light use, should I upgrade the ram? Its only got 2 gigs. I have a spare 2g chip from a 17R that will fit in it, but I am not sure if its possible. Are there 2 ram slots? I checked on the service manual and I didn't really see a clear answer.

    Thanks

Also in case anyone is wondering, A 2.5 drive fits. The factory drive is a 1.8 but a small 2.5ssd crams into position pretty easily.

Instead of making a new thread, I figured I would throw this in here...

Is there any way to optimize this system so I can play 1080p Youtube videos? I read online that I should be fine with the 4500 integrated graphics, but I guess I was wrong. 720 has no issues, but 1080p is no-go. Are there some tweaks? Would upping the ram help this at all? I am guessing I am hoping there is something I could do... my Core 2 Solo Acer Timeline 4810 could even handle 1080 and that was single core.

Are you using the latest drivers?

I think so. I will try again. I updated through system/device profile/update drivers automatically.

I will try and replace them with the newest ones from the intel site though. Thanks for the tip.

If you haven't already, you might need to install the following: Dell QuickSet

That's really odd. Are you using the latest version of Flash? How about in Chrome? You can turn on hardware acceleration with Chrome.

The HUD you are looking for is a function of the Dell Quickset. It is often overlooked when you do a fresh install on a Dell.

Installing quickset now. As for updated flash, I am running the newest version of chrome. I made sure that hardware acceleration was enabled.

    YAY! Quickset fixed it... Thanks

Now off to try and see if I can get 1080p working well

Also, anyone know if there is 2 slots for ram?

According to here and here, there is only a single RAM slot.
