Chatted with a Dell small business person and was asking him if I could get Vista Home Premium 64 bit on a Vostro. He said no, only 64 bit offered on the Vostro is Ultimate.

I understand that if I purchase a laptop now, I will get a Window 7 update disc. From what I've read, a person can do a clean install of Windows 7 64 bit over their current Vista 32 bit. What worries me a bit is if the Windows upgrade discs from Dell is a Dell OEM version. In other words would the Dell version only allow Windows 7 32 bit from Vista 32 bit. The reason that I ask this is because Dell's website states that Vista 32 bit will be upgraded to Windows 7 32 bit. No mention of Windows 7 64 bit being possible. If the disc is a version that Dell has been able to "modify" I could see this happening. Anyone have any info on this?

    Thanks.

If you buy the system with Vista Home Premium, you can use a Dell Vista Home Premium x64 disk if you can get your hands on one. 32-bit and 64-bit versions use the same key format.
