Dell initially told Anandtech that the IPS display for the M6600 would be released shortly after product launch. Almost 2 months later we don't have an IPS display. Please tell Dell to release it or be forthcoming with details by voting for my idea on ideastorm by visiting the link below:
IdeaStorm | Release the IPS monitor for the Precision M6600!

    Thank you!

Some of us in the UK can't even get the IPS display for the M4600, see this post.

    ... so I wouldn't hold your breath.

Maybe they were wrestling with Optimus vs IPS (my understanding is not compatible).

The issue is that the integrated GPU from Intel does not support 10-bit panels, hence Optimus will not work since it has to rely on Intel when the nVidia GPU is off.

Well wouldn't it be simple enough just not to have Optimus? We know that 3D isn't compatible with Optimus so XPS 17 R2 3D only has Nvidia GPU all the time. Also there are new Sandy Bridge laptops that have DGPU without running Optimus.

If the 10-bit IPS panel can take 8-bit data (can it?), why can't Dell just implement a manual switching feature? Turn on the dGPU when you need 10-bit color depth, turn it off when you need battery life, and deal with a screen flicker when doing so.

    Exactly.

Whilst they are there they can enable manual switching for us firepro 8900 users.

    Will they? Doubt it.

I imagine they could enable manual switching via the bios but it doesn't seem to be a priority.

Also, my guess is the IPS delays are probably coming from Dell's supplier. That or they are waiting for the Quadro 5010 drivers to firm up so they can release the new Quadro and IPS at the same time.
