Have you guys found any ways of improving the display quality of the E6400 WXGA+ LED backlit screen? I've noticed that compared to my Lenovo 19 inch widescreen LCD monitor, the colors are less rich, the blacks seem less deep (almost a bit washed out), and there is less picture clarity.

Are they ways of improving this or will a stand-alone LCD screen always be much superior?

    Thanks.

    Hi skyandspace

You got it, desktop monitors will almost always outclass notebook displays. Desktop monitors aren't constrained by the same space requirements as notebook panels, and generally there are different usage scenarios for each (for instance, most professionals won't use a laptop as their primary display).

Of course there are exceptions, but generally you need to accept that you won't get the same level of performance from a notebook display that you would with a desktop one. You can calibrate the colors, and tinker with the brightness and contrast, but this won't change what the notebook display is physically capable of.

First, try reducing the brightness a little - a normal setting is just over half.

Second, for the Intel graphics, there a a colour correction page in the display adaptor properties where you can tweak the gamma, brightness and contrast for all, or R G and B individually.

And there's a similar control panel for the Nvidia Quadro too. Right click your desktop and select "NVIDIA Control Panel". Look on the left for "Adjust Desktop Color Settings". I tweaked the gamma a little and also put slightly less blue.

Hmm I've been tweaking the gamma, brightness and contrast and haven't really been able to come to a good setting.

One thing I notice is that if I use this website: http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/all_tests.php

The picture looks better when I tilt the monitor away from me a bit but the purple turns to blue then so the color accuracy is then off.

Have you found good RGB settings or are the defaults the best? I noticed that compared I cannot quiet get the blacks that I want so the picture always looks a bit washed out unless I got to very low brightness levels. And then it's just dim.

You could also try using Digital Vibrance using the Nvidia control panel?

I have the Nvidia GPU, and putting the digital vibrance at +30% for all channels makes this display as good as my external monitor (except for vertical viewing angles).
