I just setup my brand new M6400 (well brand new from dell outlet). My config is QX9300, Dual HardDrives (primary is SSD), Nvidia 2700. I connected two external monitors using ePort plus dock and as I begin working on this new setup, I notice a faint (but irritating once your ears tune in) churning/hissing/clicking (hard to describe) sound from the system. I have updated Bios to latest version. Os is Win 7 64bit.

Few articles online point to muting PC Speakers but that does not help. Sound card driver is IDT HiDef Codec.

Its driving me crazy. If someone has tackled this before, can you please help.

    Thanks

I think I know what you are talking about. I don't hear that from my 6400, but I have heard that kind of noise occasionally with some other laptops I had. This really is "electronic noise" coming from some part of the circuitry, and there's pretty much nothing you can do about it, other than replacing the part(s) in question. This kinds of sounds tend to be quite high-frequency however, so as you get older, and your hearing gets less acute, you may hear less of that noise... ;)

By the way, the noise could also be coming from your dock, or one of the monitors.

Well it gets weird - but I think I narrowed it down. I have two monitors connected to the laptop (apple cinema and samsung 22") apparantly the noise/sound only comes when the samsung is on. If I turn off the samsung everything is quiet.

Now comes the part of fixing this - may be samsung drivers? dont know yet.

Thanks Pirx - you hinted at monitors as well. btw, I like the fixing the issue with aging ears idea :) but I am 30 and I hope that takes a while.
