I've noticed that sometimes after using the pointing stick for a while that if I let go, the mouse pointer will continue to move in a direction on its own. It will only last for a few seconds but it is annoying when trying to scroll through documents and such. Is this a touchcheck problem or a driver problem? Or is it hardware?

It is normal for the pointing stick to drift occasionally. It occurs due to hardware and should automatically recalibrate on its own.

However, if it happens excessively, I would recommend asking Dell for a replacement. My pointing stick use to drift rarely but now it does so several times a day and it can be extremely annoying. I plan to ask Dell to replace my keyboard/pointing stick soon.

Try updating the drivers (http://support.dell.com). I had this issue when I got the E6400, shortly after I noticed this problem there was a driver update and the problem went away.
