    So I have a 3 year old Vostro 1500 with T5470 (1.6Ghz), and it's starting to show its age... I'm thinking of adding some extra life to it and doing a CPU upgrade to the best possible CPU. So I'm just wondering what's the fastest CPU the Vostro 1500 will still support? Is it the T9300, or something higher?

    The fastest = the most expensive in its segment.
    T9300 is the best price-performance. And you can upgrade the HDD for better speed and snappiness too :)

    Wow, it looks like you've went through many CPU upgrades, haha! By the way, I'm also reading up on the T8300, it's a lot cheaper (anywhere between $60-80 cheaper), but it's only 100Mhz slower and has 3MB Cache instead of 6MB... Wouldn't this "technically" be the best price-performance CPU? Just wondering.

    I only have comparisson of T8100 and T9300 with wprime
    (T8100 is 300MHz lower than T8300)

    T8100 = 40.187 sec
    T9300 = 33.562 sec

    If you can get a T8300 with alot cheaper price than T9300, then yeah its the best.
    Check out NBR marketplace or other forums, I got my T9300 for less than $125, and overall cpu upgrade cost ~$30 LOL

    Wow, a T9300 for $125?!?!? Crazy... On eBay, even the T8300 are going for $165 after shipping. T9300 are easily over $200 on eBay.

    I'll check out the Marketplace and see if anyone is willing to part with their T8300 or T9300 :).

    I upgraded my Vostro 1500 from a T5470 to the T8300 and it's noticeably faster now. Definitely worth it. After two and a half years, my 9 cell battery finally started to die. I picked up a Dell branded replacement from Ebay. I fully expect this laptop to last for years more.

    Are you hitting 100% processor usage? If not, then upgrading the processor isn't going to do anything for you. More RAM or an SSD is going to be the way to go.
