Inside my M6400 I have the Intel Quad Core Extreme CPU (QX9300), but the Intel tools to overclock the CPU are not available, so what is the real benefit of having an Extreme CPU ?, maybe I am missing something ???    , thanks

You're not missing anything. There is no benefit (save for the minute clock speed increase) if you can't overclock it. You should have gotten an Q9000 or Q9100 instead. Maybe the QX9300 will undervolt a bit better, but seeing as Intel's got that idle VID lock, there's not much point there either.

My whitebook i can overclock in the bios, but Not all companies let you overclock because of the fact that there are people out there that will push it to far and it is a hassle to return and replace if it is the owners doing.

edit: commander wolf, there is a reason for overclocking. but it depends on why you are doing it. and how much speed increase you get(ex:going from 2.0ghz to 2.5ghz) and it also depends on the fsb, and other factors.

the asus w90 with the t9600 or t9800 stock is at 2.8. but it can overclock to 3.2. i think that is a big difference.

Wait wait, I just said that there's no benefit if you can't overclock it. I didn't say anything about overclocking in general...

Unfortunately the Q9000 and Q9100 are not available for the M6400

A Q9100 will install & run in the M6400 just fine, you can get them through retail channels or OEM pulls; I just sold one this afternoon.

    hello...

    i recently bought a M4400 with a T9400 witch i changed for a QX9100 (ES).
i agree, its almost criminal to have this CPU at default, any way, is it possible to get some software to undervolt it (foce it to stay at minimun idle VID)? where i can choose the ratio Multipyer/VID ?

    thanks in advance...
