When I click on start>turn off computer this line begins to appear in the right bottom corner of my screen. It starts to appear like cartoon smoke.

Perhaps the GPU is falling apart. The 8400 contains a latent defect.

When does your warranty expire.?Dell gave a 1 year extension for the affected GPUs.

I had a feeling that may be the culprit. I'm still under warranty and already had the mobo replaced once.

If you're able to connect the computer to an external monitor, see if it still shows up. That'd help in determining whether the LCD or the video card is at fault.

Since it looks like it's not always in the same location, it's probably the graphics card. See if a driver update does anything, and if not, it's time for a new motherboard.

The drivers are updated. It does happen in the same location. It starts out small and growns lengthwise, like you're watching animated smoke coming out of Aladdin's lamp. I've not yet seen this nice little special effect posted from anyone with the faulty Nvidia chipset. It was appearing regularly whenever I went to shutdown but today it has stopped, strange.
