    Hi all,

Just need confirmation of what soundcard the M4500 has?

    Rebuilt machine, didnt bother checking...
Dell drivers is the IDT HD 92xx driver but I'm having issues where I am not getting sound properly.

For instance, I have Chrome open, sound is meant to be playing but its not.
Clicking on the Volume symbol does indeed show the volume going up/down and what is interesting is that it is showing the sound working under the headphone symbol.

From what I can make out, the machine thinks the sound is coming out via a headphone. I do however get other sounds such as MP3 or system sounds from the speaker.

Does a headphone work? If so, it's likely a stuck headphone jack. This type of problem is more common on mobile phones as the 2.5mm jacks are more delicate.

Thanks for the reply - Yup the headphone jack works fine. I actually repair phones so I knew about the jack issue but def isnt that.
What is interesting is the "faulty" M4500 I got previously had the same issue.

I rolled back the driver this morning to the stock W7 driver and everythings working fine now. So it is a driver related issue.

It would be good if someone could confirm what they had so I could check...on googling, I noticed people fixed their sound issues by using a Sigma driver and not the IDT driver - IDT seems to have taken over Sigma?

If you uninstalled the driver, does Windows Update try to push a driver?
