I've had since February the e6400, great machine, no complaints aside from bluetooth, but that might be due to software.

so I know in a few months I want to get either a 13" or the adamo. but I am not sure if I should wait and see the latitude Z. I just wanna sell this before its value goes down too much. so I don't lose much in the exchange.

when is the new generation supposed to come out, like the ne e4300 and e6400? is the adamo inferior to the e6400? if the e4300 is gonna be around for long I might wanna switch to it. the only thing is that not many laptops have WXGA+, which I really love. I don't think I can go back to WXGA

The lack of a WXGA+ (1440x900) display option is the only thing that kept me from buying the E4300 instead of my E6400. It seems like Dell would at least offer it as an option, since the 13" ThinkPad (X301) includes a WXGA+ LED standard!

Otherwise, the E4300 is dang near perfect- light, thin, highly portable and very durable but without sacrificing a bit of peformance!

For me, the question is whether Dell will refresh the hardware but keep the same chassis or will they rework the chassis and include a 16:9 display. It would be nice to have an E6400 replacement with more speed, more battery time and less weight but not at the expense of a display with less usable height.

No direct source since NDA, but there have been signs if you follow past trends (past updates and the competition's (Lenovo) Q1 2010 refresh) and believe analysts. I forgot who, but a user here knows of the Precision M6500 being tested.

At this price, Dell is not going to attract mainstream business users -- but it will show the PC market what Dell is capable of, according to Richard Shim, an analyst at IDC. He sees the offering as Dell preparing for the expected corporate market refresh in 2010. The Latitude Z, he reasoned, is Dell's first step in trying to fire up commercial market buyers.

"The Z sounds like a technology showcase product for the commercial market. It's implementing a lot of new advanced technologies," Shim said. "All of these features are very commercial-oriented. The wireless charging is interesting. This is something that's been kicked around for a little while, but when Dell does it, it sort it brings things into the mainstream."

    Wonder if anyone noticed this:

I agree, they are all but guaranteed for Q1 2010:

E-series was originally released in ~September 2008 with Montevina platform launch. Previous hardware refresh was D630 which came out ~June 2007 with Santa Rosa platform launch. Based on time difference and hardware refreshes coinciding with new platform launches this tells us that the E-series hardware refresh (E6410, E4310, etc.) will launch with Calpella platform in the near future.

Calpella is currently available but only with Clarksdfield chips. Dell will likely use Arrandale in most iterations of E-series so launch will have to wait for that (clarksfield will prob be avail in precision line which is perhaps why we have heard rumors that new precision is being tested already).

Intel said that they have started mass producing westmere (ie. arrandale) before IDF 2009 and that they will be shipping in Q4 2009 (this prob refers to shipping to manufacturers). Generally notebooks with new chips become available for sale 1-2 months after the chips are shipped to manufacturers.

The end of Q1 2010 would be 1.5 years after original E-series launch, this is ~2 months more than the previous hardware cycle.

Based on press releases, rumors, some math, and forecasting based on previous events, it is likely that E-series will be refreshed sometime in Q1 2010. Personally, my guess would be late February but I highly doubt it would be released after Q1.

Funny to say. I had a e6400 for about 4-5 months because of the high-res screen and video card option. I currentyly have the e4300 and loving it with SSD added. If you sell the e6400 or ebay or something you probably not going fetch a lot. But as for getting a e4300 or adamo. The e4300 is better deal to get compared to the specs. Else I rather go with the envy 13".
