Why aren't there any in depth reviews thus far for Dell Precision M4600 and M6600?

I dont quite agree with this idea that just because its a business laptop the audio cannot be like that of Dell XPS systems. You mean just because its a business and productivity laptop, they decide to give a ty speaker. Is it to discourage you from watching a movie or music. That doesnt make sense at.

Productivity can also mean music file or video file processing. Shouldnt they for the huge amount price they charge give very decent speakers with high fidelity. At least in par with Dell XPS.

I had a XPS16 and the sound on thie M6600 is clearer and louder.

I can put the laptop at 15ft, play and film and my mrs will ask me to turn it down. That never happened with the XPS16...

Oh tomcom, you just threw cold water on my decision making...lol...They only reason I didnt opt for the awesome M6500 was because of the bad battery life., lack o HDMI etc, bad speaker quality and the only available GPU this year on it was dated 2009 with GDDR3 plus Direct 9.

I had waited patiently since January...and now this is highly disappointing. They really need to get a balance on performance laptops...Even the Alienware M17x R3 and M18x are dogged with the most idiotic problems...EG. You plug in SPIDF ...and you speakers stop working permanently..Solution? Motherboard change.

I know the world economy is not booming and we are heading for a recession, but in that case, why dont they improve on what they have got as winners rather than simply trying to outdo their rivals by producing imbalanced notebooks...Its simply stumps my rational mind. Its like how Nokia dropped symbian and maemo for Windows Mobile...

Wait...u mean M6600 is better than SXPS16....well that good news buddy....I have owned a SXPS 16 too..sweet machine...except for the fact Dell didnt know how to keep it successful.

I hope you made the comparison in terms of quality and not merely the loudness.Every one has been consistently complaining about the speakers for last 2 years...and SXPS studio has always had a thumbs up on this area....If wat u say is true...its really great buddy.

Hmmm..now you give me hope..In light of your revelation, I now have to consider between M4600 and M6600 because of the IPS screen. That is the only consideration...taken for granted...M4600 also has better speakers than SXPS 16.

The speakers on the M6600 are part of the overall system that includes the microphone array that allows it to get the Microsoft certification for VOIP. The speakers are built more for people actually conducting business. You need the speakers to play in a pinch during a meeting in a medium sized room. You need to be able to teleconference without echos or issues.

I will have my M6600 Monday. I am a 2 channel hi end audio purist. I will let you know how the speakers sound and how they compare to the M6500, some Latitudes, Macbooks and the Alienware M17x. Hopefully we can find a reference for you.

Will also let you know how the headphone jack sounds with a variety of IEM headphones, Grado 135s, and Sennheiser HD600s.

All in all i agree with tomcom2k:

    M6600 PROs:

    + Performance
+ Weight: My M6600 is 3,74 Kg vs 4,43 Kg of M6400 RGBLED ( that's partly due to the way cheaper M6600 screen bezel compared to M6400 E2E screen).
+ Battery life (with Nvidia / Optimus)
    + Good cooling
    + Quiet
+ Clean design (better than previous Precision series), good ergonomy
    + Decent Speakers
    + HDMI, eSATA, DisplayPort, USB3, ...

M6600 CONs (mostly compared to previous Precision series):

    - 16:9 Screen ratio not suitable for most professional apps and smaller than old Precision 16:10 screens.
    - WLED FHD screen quality and build slightly above average "prosumer" notebooks, but just not on par with a 2yrs old RGBLED on M6400/6500.
    - "cheap" keyboard, compared to M6400. It's noisy and has flex.
    - worse build quality compared to M6400. Also it looks less sturdy and rugged. Overall lower weight compared to M6400 confirms this impression.
