    Hello,

Windows 7 seems to be running fine on the Dell Latitude E4200 other than the fact that the Ambient Light Sensor is not working, did anybody find a fix for this, I know you can find the Windows 7 driver for the Dell Latitude E4200, but still same issue, thanks.

    Hi kawser,

I have a Precision M4400, but I guess the ambient light sensor (ALS) is the same. It didn't work for me on Windows 7 unless I installed Dell's Vista ALS drivers.

I didn't bother installing them, because I find the ALS is too sensitive, but today I check the 'Sensors' option in the control panel and there it is, even without Dell's drivers. I guess this is an update from Microsoft, as that's who's now listed as the manufacturer.

    Kind regards

    Hello Jonty,

I had that ticked before and YES it did work, but I had to reformat my drive, so now it's not working.

When I go to the Power Options and look in the Screen brightness: at the bottom I see the sensor reacting to the light and the slider moves accordingly. But the funny part is, physically nothing is happening to the display, weird huh.

Yeah, it's a strange one. I don't suppose this will be it, but did you try the hardware toggle? On my keyboard Fn + Left Arrow switches the ALS on and off. It might be worth a try.

It's certainly very strange. All I can think of is are you using the latest Dell Control Point software? I personally don't use it, and the ALS works okay, but it might be worth checking if you have the latest version.

Maybe try uninstalling all the relevant drivers, then starting afresh. Sorry I can't help more!

I just performed a inplace upgrade on my E4200 from Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Ultimate, and I installed all Win7 drivers that Dell provided for this laptop, except for the chipset (it won't run because it's not supported for some reason).

After those works, Inside device manager there is only one device that does not work properly -- the "Contacted Smartcard". Appreantly Dell website does not have driver for this. Can anyone please kindly give me a hint about how to fix this problem?

    First

    Second

These are from support.dell.com. The first is the Driver for it, the second is the Application.

Make sure you have Control Point System Manager installed before installing the above. Here it is just in case.

    DCP System Manager

Again, these are all from support.dell.com
